Hardware · IOT-M12CH

Every phase. Every channel. One device.

The MeterX IOT-M12CH is a multi-phase energy meter and power data logger built for South African shopping centres. 12 channels per unit, 72-channel headroom, Class 0.5 accuracy, IP65 enclosure — logged locally, delivered to the cloud every minute.

Designed in South Africa

Built to meter malls, not data centres.

Every design choice in the M12CH came from the same place: a live mall distribution board where space is tight, phases are unbalanced, and a technician has ten minutes before the next retailer complaint. The result is a device that installs without downtime, measures what actually matters, and talks to the cloud without asking.

Features

Six reasons the M12CH is our standard.

Modular front metering unit

Swappable FMU header design. A technician can replace or recalibrate a unit in minutes without tearing out the enclosure.

12 channels per unit

12-bit A/D at 12 ksps per channel with SPI comms. Stack 6 FMUs in one enclosure for a 72-channel panel.

Local + cloud logging

4 MB flash plus 8 / 16 GB SD card buffer on-device; 1-minute interval data streamed to InfluxDB via 4G modem.

Split-core CTs

Installs safely on live distribution boards without taking the supply down. 3-phase 4-wire support as standard.

Built-in web server

Local browser UI with live JS charts for Watts, Volts, Amps, Hz, PF, VArh — useful on-site for commissioning and diagnostics.

AI usage forecasting (beta)

Deep-learning models trained on the client's own history predict future consumption and flag unusual demand fluctuations.

Applications

Where the M12CH earns its keep.

Designed around the specific realities of South African commercial metering — but at home on any medium-complexity electrical installation.

  • Shopping-centre landlord incomer + tenant sub-metering.
  • Mixed-use buildings (retail + office + common areas).
  • Solar PV generation and self-consumption measurement.
  • BESS charge / discharge and round-trip efficiency tracking.
  • Genset run-time and load measurement during grid outages.
  • Industrial energy-efficiency and loss analysis.
  • AI-assisted load forecasting and expenditure budgeting.
  • Anomaly detection on large distribution networks.
Installation & service

Installed, commissioned and maintained by MeterX.

We don't ship hardware and wish you luck. The M12CH is installed, commissioned and calibrated by our own field team — and every unit is tracked through the same work-order system that powers the live platform, so on-site changes never get lost between the electrician and the billing engine.

  • On-site commissioning with live-data verification.
  • Calibration records kept per FMU serial — traceable, auditable.
  • Field work orders with billing-window taint flags when hardware is swapped mid-cycle.
  • Remote firmware management via the same secure channel.
