MeterX Online (Pty) Ltd is a private company registered in the Republic of South Africa with its head office at 19 Market Street, George, 6529, Western Cape. 2. Information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us we may collect the following categories of personal information:
- Contact details you submit via our website, email or phone (name, email address, phone number, employer).
- Client account information when you are a user of the MeterX platform (name, email, role, the sites or tenants you are scoped to).
- Metering data associated with premises we meter on behalf of a landlord or other responsible party. This data relates to the premises, not the individual occupant, but may be linked to a tenant entity.
- Technical information collected automatically when you visit our website (IP address, browser type, pages viewed).
3. Why we process your information
We process personal information only where we have a lawful basis:
- To respond to enquiries and provide quotes, demos or support.
- To deliver the MeterX platform and related billing services under contract with our clients.
- To comply with legal, regulatory and tax obligations.
- To protect our legitimate interests in preventing fraud, debugging issues and improving our services.

We do not sell personal information. We may share it with:
- The landlord, property manager or responsible party who has engaged us to provide metering or billing services for the relevant premises.
- Reputable third-party service providers who host infrastructure, deliver email, or provide legal / accounting services — each bound by a written operator agreement.
- Regulators and law-enforcement authorities where required by law.
5. Cross-border transfers
Where we use hosting or analytics providers outside South Africa, we take reasonable steps to ensure the receiving country or operator upholds standards comparable to POPIA.
6. Retention
Personal information is retained only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. Metering and billing records are typically retained for a minimum of five (5) years in line with tax and commercial record-keeping obligations.
7. Security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal information — including encrypted transport, role-scoped access to the platform, and a full audit log of administrative actions.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of inaccurate or unlawfully held information.
- Object to the processing of your information in certain circumstances.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).
